Treatment for Dizziness & Vertigo in Edmonton, AB

At Pleasantview Physiotherapy Clinic in Edmonton, AB, our registered physiotherapist undergo extensive training and continuing education to bring you research-based treatment methods for your dizziness and vertigo symptoms. Patients experiencing spinning (vertigo), dizziness, nausea, imbalance, problems with vision, and light-headedness, and anxiety, have a strong chance of a vestibular dysfunction being the cause of those symptoms. Vestibular rehabilitation is a form of physical therapy we offer as treatment. Through this method, we assess and treat our patients’ dizziness and disequilibrium symptoms stemming from their vestibular, or inner ear, pathology.

Goals of Participating in Vestibular Rehabilitation

Studies have shown that approximately 50% of all adults are affected by dizziness at some point. Vestibular problems are responsible for 40% of all cases of dizziness. When you seek treatment at Pleasantview Physiotherapy Clinic, our team of therapists carefully assess your condition to determine its severity and how to treat it. During treatment, we strive to accomplish all of the following:

  1. Identify the underlying cause of the vestibular symptoms
  2. Perform screening of more serious pathological issues and referral to a physician if needed
  3. Discuss the possible options to treat your condition
  4. Implement your specific one-on-one, individualized treatment

Pleasantview Physiotherapy uses Infrared Google Technology

Your vestibular system and your eyes have a direct connection with each other. Problems with your vestibular system can result in changes to your eye reflexes, producing abnormal eye motion (called Nystagmus). Closely examining these nystagmus patterns of your eyes allows us to perform a more detailed assessment resulting in a more accurate diagnosis. Pleasantview Physiotherapy is one of only a very few clinics providing research-based assessment and treatment services for vestibular disorders, using Infrared Goggle technology. Each personalized treatment depends on our assessment findings, it can involve education, manual therapy, or head manoeuvers, a personalized exercise program, or a combination of these strategies.

What to Expect From Our One-On-One Treatments

During your initial visit, which is one-hour, we will take a comprehensive history and perform a complete clinical assessment. Symptoms can be from dozens of various pathologies, so special care is taken to rule out non-vestibular causes first.
