• Dizziness and Vertigo

Vestibular Rehabilitation is an approach in assessing and treating dizziness and disequilibrium symptoms stemming from inner ear (vestibular) pathology. Symptoms of vestibular disorders include:

  • Dizziness
  • Vertigo
  • Lightheadedness
  • Imbalance
  • Visual disturbances
  • Nausea
  • Motion sensitivity
  • Hearing problems

Goals of Vestibular Rehabilitation

Recent studies indicate that dizziness affects approximately 50% of all adults at some point. Vestibular problems account for 40% of all dizziness. When you come into Pleasantview Physiotherapy Clinic, we strive to:

  1. Identify underlying cause of your vestibular symptoms
  2. Discuss possible treatment options
  3. Implementation of specific one-on-one, individualized treatment

The initial visit includes assessment and, if appropriate, will include treatment. One-on-one treatments usually follow with one session per week lasting about half an hour. The number of treatments needed depends on the following factors:

  • Type of vestibular condition
  • Duration of the condition
  • Severity of symptoms
  • Tolerance to treatment sessions

Current research studies indicate that, depending on the type of vestibular condition, 70-84% of individuals had remission of symptoms after only a single treatment session. On average, 4-6 sessions are required.
